GTE Corp and Contel Corp announced a planned merger creating the largest U.S. local phone provider and sizable cellular operator. Share exchanges set at 1.27 GTE for each Contel, with approval from shareholders and regulators including the FCC.
William E. Ruth, superintendent of Lorain County Joint Vocational School, is awarded a four year contract effective Aug. 1. The first year salary rises to 63000 with benefits up at least five percent. Ruth has led the school since William R. Burton’s retirement and previously as its director since establishment.
An 81 year old Grafton resident Warren E. Goode proposes home built sinks with automatic wash and separation to recycle bottles cans and plastics. He envisions a private company funding storage facilities and equipment with homeowner costs recouped over five years through sale of separated materials.
Kathy Ramsey, former Sheffield May Co. manager and division vice president, will lead the Elyria store opening at Midway Mall August 8. Sheffield location to close July 28 and be placed on the market. Ramsey began as a management trainee and later ran Sheffield. She holds a Miami University degree.
