Battelle researchers find Laetrile ineffective in mice tests

Two Battelle Laboratories researchers report that Laetrile from peach and apricot pits showed no effect on human tumor transplants in nude mice and produced no toxicity. In two three month tests the drug was negative, even with beta glucosidase added, while conventional anticancer drugs worked in similar tumors. Researchers note the results do not rule out effects in other systems. The study was submitted to the American Cancer Institute this week as the Laetrile debate moves to Congress with witnesses including FDA and NCI heads.
