Bandit Fleagle Hanged at Colorado State Penitentiary
CANON CITY Colo July 11 Ralph Fleagle bandit and slayer met death on the gallows at Colorado state penitentiary last night. He embraced the Catholic faith before the trap sprang at 9 03 p m and spoke comfort to Father Regis Barrett after the death march began. His last words were Jesus have mercy on my soul God bless you Father. The first jerk broke his neck in one of the fastest hangings in the penitentiary. Fleagle led the Lamar Dank gang in a 1928 $200000 robbery that left four dead. Howard L Royston and George J Abshier among others face execution next week. His brother Little Jake remains at large. Fleagle had shown courtesy to guards and visitors while harboring bitterness over what he called being gypped by the state.
