Ohio campaign spending falls amid promotion gaps

Ohio GOP chair man Robert Bennett cites lack of bipartisan effort to promote the tax checkoff as the main reason for spending decline. A Taft report shows Democratic Party spending at 4 million and Republican at 3.8 million in 1994, with lower races shrinking total funds though attorney general and state treasurer saw increases. A new campaign finance law effective Aug. 23 offers a 100 percent state income tax credit for donations starting in 1995, up to 50 dollars for individuals and 100 dollars for two earners.
