Ulcer expert warns recession heightens stress risk
Dr Gordon McHardy, emeritus LSU Medical School, says recession boosts stress ulcers in workers losing jobs and in working mothers, with women showing rising gastric ulcers. He links physical and emotional stress to ulcers, notes that normalizing life and avoiding alcohol, smoking, and caffeine can help. He cites treatment shifts toward limited meals and antacids, plus cimetidine and sucralfate, and stresses strong doctor patient rapport to manage risk.
