Amish family seeks New England land on long wagon journey
The Eli Gerber family, in a horse drawn wagon, left Arkansas in June 1970 seeking a New England homestead and a simple life. From Hardy Arkansas to Ohio and Pennsylvania they travel daily 20 to 25 miles with four children tutored by their mother. They refuse industrial areas and hope to find affordable land among poorer communities, even if the plan includes returning to Arkansas if conditions fail.
