Lorain boards seeks 6.9 mill emergency levy for budget gap
Lorain school board votes to place a 6.9 mill emergency levy on the November ballot to cover an $8.7 million budget shortfall by 2011 and possibly avert an $8.2 million deficit in 2012 with cost cuts and wage freezes. The levy would raise about $4.6 million annually for five years, costing a $100000 home about $200 more yearly, and would be insulated from property value swings. The district aims to hold the levy five years to keep accountability to taxpayers.
