Brezhnev warns Reagan against sending Lebanon troops

Soviet leader Brezhnev urged President Reagan not to deploy Marines to Lebanon. Israel tightened a near total blockade to starve PLO controlled west Beirut as heavy shelling hit southern Palestinian neighborhoods. Foreign minister Kimche rejected any PLO presence or interim army withdrawal, while Begin pursued mediation and warned no deadline for U S involvement.
