Moscow University Sky Scraper Reflects Soviet Education Drive
Charles Klensch reports from Moscow on the towering 32 story Moscow University building, the tallest in Europe aside from six Manhattan skyscrapers, symbolizing the Soviet drive for a “New Soviet Man.” He describes cradle to college schooling, seven-year grade school, state sponsorship for top graduates, and high competition for admission. He notes student stipends, free books, and rigorous grading, with many hours devoted to study as a law student named Lavrentiev shares his 10 hour daily routine.
