Cubs Face Acute Catching Problem in 1930s Fight for Wins
Chicago Cubs remain in the race despite a persistent catching weakness all season. Veteran Zack Taylor is acquired from the Boston Braves, aiming to bolster defense though not the offense, as Mike Gonzales and young catchers struggle at the plate. Grimms’ 80 hits and 39 runs highlight the need for a stronger backstop to drive in runners.
