Regional centers eyed Lima hospital closing urged
Dr. Timothy Moritz of the Ohio Mental Health department urged the Lima State Hospital for the Criminally Insane be closed and replaced by three regional forensic hospitals in Cleveland Columbus and southwest Ohio. He says the plan would cost less than renovating Lima and include major university affiliations for forensic psychiatry and mental health law training. Moritz notes Lima’s jail-like campus dates to 1907 with 367 patients and cites federal court costs totaling about 13.7 million dollars to meet standards and start modern programs.
