Arguments Favor Appointment Of Ohio Judges At Rotary Meeting

Richard F. Stevens urged Lorain County residents to back a proposed Ohio constitutional amendment replacing judicial elections with appointments. The plan would have the governor appoint supreme court and court of appeals judges from a short list by a nine member council, with six year terms and voter retention votes after each term. Common pleas judges would remain elected unless counties opt for appointment. Senate confirmation and a retention vote aim to reduce politics and improve competence.
