Check your tackle before fishing, says Bill Schulz
Atlanta based Associated Press writer Bill Schulz urges anglers to inspect lines for wear and nicks, test rod guides with a cotton swab, secure reels, oil moving parts, and set drag according to conditions to avoid losing a trophy fish and later telling the wrong tale.

16 inch bass limit helps Knox Lake recovery in Ohio
Fishermen doubting the 16 inch minimum size limit on Knox Lake bass now praise the program as the stock rebounds. Biologist Tom Hall notes prior overharvest at 80 hours per acre and 50 percent of adults over 11 inches were removed annually, but 1983 saw far fewer catches and a sharp rise in 12 inch bass. The study continues through next spring with clubs embracing the rule and more legal fish being caught this spring than last year. Hall believes mass limits could help other small Ohio lakes, though effectiveness on larger inland lakes remains uncertain.
