Will Left by Jacques Belanger on DC8 Crash

Jacques Belanger a 16 year old Air Canada mechanic aboard the DC8 bound for Los Angeles left a will detailing gifts for relatives and friends. The document was given to his cousin Daniel Mallette before the flight. Also among the victims were his mother sister and younger brother and 108 people in total per the crash near Toronto.

Elyria Executive Dies in Westover Plane Wreckage

The body of Elyria business executive Charles G. Mackie was recovered from a single engine Piper Cherokee wrecked in a wooded swamp near Westover Air Force Base. Mackie of 300 Washington Ave. was Stanadyne Inc. director of product development en route to visit his daughter at Block Island. He aimed for visual landings at Bridgeport or Windsor Locks but ended at Westover.

Fourth of July Holiday Traffic Toll Falls Short Of Projections

UPI reports 540 traffic deaths during the Fourth of July weekend, from 6 p.m. Thursday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday, with California leading at 50 fatalities and several states reporting zero deaths. Total deaths across all categories reached 818, while the National Safety Council had forecast 560 traffic fatalities.
