Israel blocks food and water to west Beirut
United Press International reports Israel rejected a PLO plan to leave Lebanon and began blocking food and water entering west Beirut to pressure an unconditional withdrawal. A senior Israeli official said the US would have more time to remove PLO fighters before any attack. The siege tightens as about 6,000 fighters shelter with 500,000 civilians. An east Beirut resident notes the blockade, while an army spokesman says aid could enter via the port. Also, a Fourth of July fireworks display in Lakewood caused injuries.
