Fire at General Industries building injures, forces evacuations
Firefighters battled a blaze at the General Industries facility adjudged by officials to be one of the largest in Elyria’s history. Water pressure constraints and outlying departments in a water shuttle kept supplies tight as bloodmobile assets valued at $600,000 were protected. Investigators, including fire marshal staff, will reconstruct causes, with arson not ruled out. Evacuees sought shelter at Eastern Heights Junior High School as ash fell and neighbors reported flaming debris nearby.
