Black pilot becomes first black four star general in U.S. history
In a historic milestone Air Force Lt Gen Daniel James, 55, is promoted to four star general, becoming the first Black officer to reach that rank. The achievement follows his earlier protests against segregation and amid ongoing racial tensions and opportunities for minorities in the armed forces. Secretary Callaway notes persistent tension and says efforts to boost minority and women opportunities must continue, as he departs to work on Ford's 1976 campaign.
