Inmate Escapes Using Dental Floss at West Virginia Jail
Robert Shepard, 34, escaped from the South Central Regional Jail in Charleston by braiding dental floss into a rope thick as a telephone cord. He climbed an 18-foot wall, hacked through a fence with a 3-inch saw blade, and remains at large two days after the breakout. Authorities review commissary records to estimate floss usage while inmates face tighter security and floss sales are suspended.
