Timken Roller Bearing Co in Canton raises wages for 18 000 workers after a contract with United Steel Workers. Increases range from 12 to 14 percent for those earning 1 to 125 per hour, with over 1.25 per hour receiving 10 percent. The one year agreement includes maintenance of membership and no checkoff as per Taft Hartley.
More than 600 members of the Westlake Sportsmen's Association expect thousands of guests at the first benefit carnival and fair opening in Clague Park Westlake. Plants affected by the contract include Canton Wooster Zanesville Mount Vernon and Columbus. The previous contract expired June 30 and meetings since Monday paved the way for the new agreement. Highlights include a Friday fireworks show Pay Howard and his Connecticut Colonels Saturday night and a full amateur show Sunday afternoon and evening.
