Two Bills Become Laws Without Lausche Signature
In Columbus Governor Frank Lausche approved one bill and allowed two others from the 06th general assembly to become law without his signature. He signed the Mechem-Deddens bill creating a business commission to study small business problems and prevent failures while allowing the Sawicki bill adding a juvenile court judge in Cuyahoga County and the Duckle bill permitting railroads and use tax houses in Ohio with bay type windows to become law. The Sawicki bill faced objections noting a lack of qualifying six years practice for judges, with the Governor citing a reduced requirement to three years and asserting the modification stemmed from votes influenced by delegates rather than merit. He warned voters to consider adequate training and experience when selecting the judge.
