Planes May Trigger Local Snowfall Near Airports

Heymsfield of NCAR finds that planes flying through super cooled clouds can induce condensation and ice formation that produces extra snow or rain near airports, especially within about 60 miles, with effects driven by wingtip cooling and heat release from freezing droplets.
