U S Steel to Furlough 200 More Workers Next Week
U S Steel plans to furlough 200 workers at the Lorain Cuyahoga Works next week due to a continued production slowdown. This week 100 furloughed workers were laid off, raising total unemployed to 3 700. Andy DeAngelis of USW Local 1104 says many see the move as layoffs since not all have returned after seven days. The plant, serving petroleum and auto industries, has operated week to week on orders since the start of the year, with staggered operations sometimes taking up to half of the plant’s 600 workers out of work.
