Speed helps Indians top Blue Jays in shutout win
Horace Speed returned from an ankle injury to boost Cleveland with a single and triple driving in two runs as Rick Wise fired a eight strikeout shutout over Toronto. The Indians, now 8-3-3 in 11 games, moved past Toronto while Buddy Bell's injury reshaped the infield and Cox filled in. Speed has hit .400 since returning and praised seeing pitches better. Spinks Brothers Face Court On Assault And Drug Charge
Chicago and St Louis report that heavyweight champion Leon Spinks and upstart Michael Spinks were ordered to court on July 11 to answer charges of common assault and marijuana possession. Police say Michael struck Patrolman Ronald DeManuele after Detective James Marx seized a bag with 17 grams of marijuana from his car near the airport terminal. An exhibition bout was halted when fans clashed behind Spinks corner as George Mostardini watched. Spinks' attorney called the incident insulting to boxing fans while Michael defended it as typical street fighting there. Pedro Agosto defeated Grady Daniels in a unanimous 10 round decision.
