Teens injured in weekend car crash and pole collision
Five youths in Lorain were treated at St. Joseph Hospital after a car struck a utility pole at Lakeview Avenue and Edith Court. Injured were Ann Lewis 15 Altheda Edwards 15 Donald Davis 16 Fay Lewis 14 and driver Robert Ross 17 with abdominal bruises. Police charged Ross with a juvenile traffic offense.

Lightning bolt sparks twin Avon Lake blazes
A single lightning bolt hit two Avon Lake homes on Duff Drive causing a fire at Brent Wood’s residence 2.21 PM and a separate blaze at William Cohn’s house across the street striking a TV antenna. The Cohns were away. Damages undetermined. In Elyria, lightning damaged Walt’s Restaurant at 1:50 PM igniting a gas line and scorching a sandstone wall. Amherst fire crews reported two small fires with details unavailable.

Lorain Girl Wins Juvenile Twirling Title in Cincinnati
Lorain 10 year old Kaye Nelson daughter of Mr and Mrs Calvin Nelson won the juvenile division championship at the State VFW Twirling Contest in Cincinnati representing Lorain VFW Post 7035. She has 20 baton trophies with 15 first place or championships from Ohio Michigan and Indiana events and twice placed eighth in USTA national finals.

Lorain police charged Wilbur W. Street 31 of 2253 Lorain Dr with child neglect after neighbors reported two young children left home alone. Billy 5 and Karen 4 were fed by a neighbor and kept at a neighbor’s until child welfare workers arrived. Street returned home late and offered minimal answers.
