Snowstorm Grips South Causing Wrecks and Power Loss
A wintry storm blanketed the South with heavy snow and ice, crippling roads and knocking out power across states from Tennessee to Maryland. In Nashville about six inches fell, a central Tennessee woman died when a tree crashed into her mobile home, and northern Virginia saw crashes on I-81 with several hospitalized. The Washington Baltimore corridor prepared for 4 to 8 inches as the storm neared, while a panda farewell at the National Zoo was shortened due to travel disruptions. Schools and activities, including a bowling tournament in Smyrna, were affected.
