She earned AB and MA at Oberlin and a PhD from Yale taught at Oberlin Yale Boston University and Vassar becoming Professor Emeritus and first female president of the American Musicological Society. She studied conductus and published Thirty five Conductus for Two and Three Voices in 1965. Memorial service at Kendal at Oberlin Heiser Auditorium March 20 2010 with Collegium.
