Ohio remains in a state of crisis as major gas suppliers urge industrial and commercial users to shut down through the weekend. statewide losses mount with more than 3,000 local workers idle and potential layoffs approaching one million statewide as energy shortages chill production and sales.
Publisher Arthur D. Hudnutt urges voluntary energy savings in homes, businesses, and industry to avert further shortages. The message calls for thermostats set to 65 during day and 35 at night, stores to 66 by day and 55 at night, and warns that mandatory controls could come without cooperation. Rural areas in Erie and Huron counties still recover from a blizzard as the Ohio National Guard aids with essentials. Lorain and Huron counties report extensive road closures and icy conditions, with multiple routes limited to one lane.
