City Flood-Proof Plan Seeks Basement Drain Disconnection

Project Dry Basement Plus would require older homes to disconnect footer tiles from sanitary sewers, divert rainwater to storm sewers. About 86 million gallons daily are sent to two plants that can only handle 18 million. Homes built before 1973 face costs from 2,000 to 8,000. City offers 10-year no-interest loans, but many elderly/low income residents cannot afford. Critics urge city repair of aging systems first and shared regional costs. Residents urge protective sale value and burden fairness. Contact Adam Wright at 329-7157 or awright chroniclet.com.
