Lake Erie fishing outlook strong with new rules in place
Ohio anglers are assured excellent Lake Erie fishing this season. Walleye will be led by 1999 and 2001 hatches with established 15 inch minimum size and three fish March April bag limit. six May February. Perch and smallmouth bass also abound across western and central basins with updated regulations and strong hatch histories.

Ohio Division of Wildlife announces a Castalia trout fishing lottery for Cold Creek at Castalia State Fish Hatchery in Erie County. Two seasons run April to Oct with a limit of five trout daily and no catch-and-release. Applicants must submit a $3 form by March 1. luckies may bring two adults and three youths.

Ice Fishing Report Warns Of Dangerous Western Basin Conditions
Western Lake Erie ice remains fragile with currents and winds creating unsafe slush. Walleye and yellow perch bite is strongest west of South Bass but mainland access is perilous. Gale winds last weekend broke ice, forcing rescues near Calanta. Guides advise air boat travel or flying to South Bass, with safer fishing spots in bays and near White's Landing Crystal Rock and old Route 2 areas.
