FDA Bans Some Uses of Red Dye 3
The FDA barred certain uses of Red No. 3 in lip sticks cake frostings cough drops and some processed fruits and juices because high doses have shown cancer risk in rats. Existing products may still be sold and used. The ban targets new manufacturing and prohibits the dye when color is mixed with other additives while direct addition may continue for now.
