Avon Firemen Rescue Horse From 18 Foot Well

Kidnappers Sentenced to Die in Electric Chair

A blizzard swept northeastward across Missouri Illinois Michigan and northern Indiana. The storm centered over southern Illinois brought a sharp temperature drop and freezing rain along its eastern fringe. Forecaster C A Donne predicted lower temperatures gales heavy snows for the eastern Great Lakes and an extreme cold wave in North Dakota and northern Minnesota tonight. Snow was reported in Buffalo and winds blasted eastern Iowa and northern Missouri. Air traffic halted in Cleveland due to near ceiling zero conditions and dangerous ice. Roads west of Toledo and highways west of Toledo into Indiana and southern Illinois were blocked by snow and drifting. In Paulding County six inches of snow with sleet and lightning damaged utilities and halted buses. Wires and trees were down from Pt Clinton to Danbury and traffic detours formed near Camp Perry.

Irish poet and playwright William Butler Yeats died at a resort on the Riviera near Mentone France aged 73. He had traveled to the coast to recover from a series of heart attacks. Besides his literary output he was active in the Irish nationalist movement and served as a senator in the Free State from 1922 to 1928.
