Nyack New York January 30 posses and police searched for a young man believed to be an escaped lunatic who has attacked five women in recent weeks two of whom were clubbed into unconsciousness. Reports say John Renecat escaped Middletown State hospital eight days after admission and vowed vengeance on Nyack.

Fire destroys two business blocks and homes in Paterson
In Paterson New Jersey a major blaze in the Silverside section destroyed two large business buildings and a block of four hundred residents lost their homes. Sixteen people were rescued from a top floor by policemen who lowered them into life nets as three fires spread across the city and Fire Chief Thomas Coyle called for aid from six neighboring towns.
