Redistricting plan pits Legislature against commission
Ohio lawmakers face a clash over map rules as the bipartisan Redistricting Commission would redraw districts if the Legislature fails to agree. A four year map could take effect with a simple vote, while a 10 year map needs four of seven votes, including two from minority party members. Fair Congressional Districts for Ohio seeks a constitutional amendment shifting control to the commission and setting criteria to prevent partisan gerrymandering, minimize county splits, and adhere to voting laws.

VA centers cut opioid prescriptions in Dayton by 40 percent
The Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center reduced its opioid prescribing rate by more than 40 percent since 2012. Data released by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs show last year 11 percent of prescriptions at the Dayton VA were opioids, down from 20 percent in 2012, part of a nationwide 41 percent drop. Dr. Anne Venable connects the trend to the broader overdose crisis, as Montgomery County records 560 overdose deaths.
