Feline Total Knee Replacement Aims to Help Cat Cyrano
Cyrano the ten year old Upperville cat became the first known feline total knee replacement in the United States. NC State University engineers and surgeon Denis Marcellin Little led the effort to fuse a cobalt chromium and plastic implant to Cyrano’s leg using osseointegration. The project built on years of cat joint work and used a laser-fabricated two inch prosthetic with unique articulation to bend and rotate, overcoming small cat anatomy and damaged bone obstacles.
