Vietnam vet sentenced to five years in Haiphong jail
Everett Sennholz, 45, a Vietnam War veteran from Puyallup Washington, was sentenced by a Haiphong court to five years in prison and fined the equivalent of 7700 for transporting firearms and hundreds of books and videotapes in a shipment. The case highlights Vietnam’s wariness of Western influence as it opens its economy. Sennholz, who planned to marry an English teacher in Haiphong, faced destruction of many materials and possible appeal within 15 days.
