Old Baltimore Stock Exchange Was Social Club
Baltimore's stock exchange, founded February 26, 1838, began as a social place with merry afternoons and pranks. It has since become conservative, with little matching the bustling New York market. The first trade listed was three shares of water stock at 67 cents, amid early curiosities like Spanish doubloons.
