Mayors choose magistrates to curb liability costs in court shifts

Avon and Gratton officials employ magistrates at annual salaries of $19,000 and $6,000 respectively to avoid city liability from mayor's court hearings. Mayors Smith and Ondercin emphasize public perception and conservative risk, while gratitude over litigation savings grows. Critics note cases still go to Styria Municipal Court, with reviews due in coming months.

Family ties stall tire shredder funding bid in county

Vasi proposes 375000 in equipment including an 88000 shredder to use tire shreds as basement backfill in Cuyahoga and Lorain. He and sister obtained the used shredder without county aid. Mary Jo Vasi recuses herself, others silent as concerns over conflicts and merit of the plan linger.

Tire tech shifts to steel reinforced designs for durability

From D1 process, including crude oil, car bon black, and the high strength steel wires laced through the whole structure of the tire. The steel wires have taken the place of nylon cords and create a more durable, longer lasting tire. The downside to steel reinforcement is that the steel wires make the recycling of the tire more difficult and more expensive and requires state of the art equipment to remove the steel. Tire shreds, absent the steel wiring, have been used as a gravel replacement on playgrounds as a backfill for homes. In addition, the shreds can be used along with coal as a fuel and it burns hotter and is better for the environment.
