Ninth District Court Rejects Elyria Tax Referendum

Vandals strike Norwalk draft board office in fire damaging 11000 cards

Vandals ripped 11 000 draft cards from the Norwalk office located in the Citizens National Bank building. The blaze followed earlier incidents in Lorain Akron and Painesville. Officials said no permanent loss of records will occur due to duplicate lists. Norwalk police and federal agents investigated with three local officers on the case.

Elyria Board of Education approves levy resolution

The Elyria Board of Education approved a resolution to place an additional tax levy on the May ballot. No millage amount was set yet, with 5 mills cited as a prior possibility. A Feb 9 library meeting was scheduled to determine the exact millage figure, open to the public.

Two men survive Sierra crash fifteen days drinking snow

Starr and Eben were found near the wreckage 15 days after their plane crashed in the Sierra Nevada. They survived on snow and water, endured frostbite and exhaustion, and were rescued by helicopter after Starr walked 312 miles in search of help. One companion, Donald Shaver, died in the crash.

Suspect's wife testifies before Yablonski probe

The wife and sister of Cleveland man Paul Gilly charged in the Joseph Yablonski murder testified before a federal grand jury in Cleveland.
