Firefighters Halt Grafton Blaze In Century-Old Block
More than 100 firefighters from six communities battled sub freezing conditions and water supply problems to control a downtown Grafton fire that destroyed a 100-year-old Country Kitchen Restaurant and damaged West River Florist and nearby shops. Fire officials credited mutual aid from Oberlin LaGrange Carlisle Township Grafton Township and Eaton Township with saving Durkee's General Store. The fire began around 3 45 a.m. and was controlled by 8 a.m. with outbreaks until 9 a.m. The damage was estimated at 150 000 dollars and the cause remained under investigation.
