Scientists Create First Synthetic Bacterial Genome
A Chicago team led by J Craig Venter reports assembling all genes of Mycoplasma genitalium into a 582 million base pair synthetic DNA strand with watermarks. The genome is intact but cannot infect, and no living cell has been rebooted yet. researchers aim to insert and revive it despite DNA degradation challenges.
