Reward Offered Over Akron RR Attacks On Conductors
Wheeling & Lake Erie offers a 20000 reward for information about two dawn assaults on conductors as they checked freight cars near Akron. No robbery or threats occurred, with investigators seeking motive beyond sport. Conductor Jeff Weisgarber and Gary Frantz were attacked in December and January, respectively, with prior incidents in Medina and Cleveland.

Unwed motherhood rising among adults in Cleveland trend
In Cleveland and Cuyahoga County unwed births are rising among adults while teen births fall. From 1990 to 1997 teen share dropped from about half to one fifth of unmarried mother births, with many women aging into unwed motherhood and viewing single life as acceptable.

Heidelberg dorm fire blamed on faulty wiring
A 4 a.m. attic fire at Williard Hall, Heidelberg College, started by an electrical short damaged the three story dorm and forced about 60 students to evacuate. Firefighters contained the blaze in four hours with minor injuries reported among firefighters. Residents were temporarily relocated and could retrieve belongings the next day. Heidelberg officials estimated six months to rebuild if pursued.
