GRAFTON The drive in progress in Grafton Village for clothing for war torn areas will end on January 31. Sponsored by the Friendship club of the school and the village churches. The central collecting point is Finley’s Barage. All usable clothing and bedding are acceptable.
The Second Congregational church held its annual meeting with officer elections and reports. Alfred Luther led the nominating committee. 43 new members were welcomed. Rev. Joseph King of Oberlin spoke on the War Victims and Reconstruction Fund and European relief efforts.
Nearly 40 senators signed a petition to shorten debate in the filibuster prone Senate as Republicans and Democrats seek to stop a Southern Democratic bid for a permanent Fair Employment Practices Commission. The effort to end the filibuster faced likely defeat as 16 signatures are needed to file, with two thirds required to pass. Senator Morse urged long sessions, decrying bankers hours and the impression of a bid to break the filibuster.
Memorial services for Armand D. Ensign will be held at the Wellington Methodist Church Sunday at 3:30 p.m. The serviceman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Myron T. Ensign of R12 West Breed Street, went down on a torpedoed troopship in the Kiel Channel on Christmas Eve, 1944. He attended Wellington schools and was known in Elyria through his involvement with several Elyria orchestras.
