Salt costs and limits in Elyria snow fight
Elyria road crews ration salt as a record snow season strains supplies. At 40 dollars a ton the city has spent about 240000 on ice melt this winter with 2300 tons used in December and 3400 tons in January. Crews avoid over-application before heavy storms and preserve reserves for key intersections. Officials say the salt shed is currently full with eight weeks left in the season, but Ohio weather remains unpredictable.

New Riverbend Homes project eyed on Third Street site
The Chronicle reports a 14 acre Third Street site prepped with a silt fence as dirt is planned to be moved to a high school project. New Riverbend would include 98 market rate homes valued 169 900 to 199 000 funded with city participation amid prior New Sunrise subsidized units built with federal tax credits. City officials regret not securing a writt development agreement for total site plans and caution about repeating the same decision.
