Elyria plans big senior services project on Midway land
The Elyria Planning Commission unanimously approved rezoning about 20 acres on Midway Boulevard for a joint senior services center and independent living project by the McGregor Foundation and CHN Housing Partners. The plan adds a PACE facility with 40 jobs and 6 million ARPA funds, plus a 70 unit independent living complex. Council expedited review to meet February deadlines for state funding.

Elyria Schools to switch busing to GG&C Bus Co. in 2024
Elyria Schools announced a transportation pact with GG&C Bus Co. of Meadville, Penn., effective July 1, for about 60 routes daily at 534.51 per route and 356.55 per van. The four year contract, with a two year optional extension, ends June 30, 2028, with 2.5 percent annual increases.

The 9th District Court of Appeals unanimously upheld Ronald Diamond’s life without parole sentence for killing his wife Deborah Diamond in their Sheffield home on June 7, 2021. Diamond argued sentencing errors and constitutional violations after a no contest plea to aggravated murder, murder, and felonious assault.

Wellington Exempted Village Schools announces retirement of Superintendent Edward Weber effective August 1.
