Erie County Sets Defense Fees Under New State Law
Erie County Commission adopted a fee schedule for indigent defense in Judge James McCrystal's Common Pleas Court to secure state funding. The plan pays lawyers for non public defender cases, with $500-$1,500 for first degree murders and $250-$1,000 for second degree murders, under amended state statutes. A public defender board of control will be created next month as required by the new law.
