2013 surpasses 1988 as one of top warm years

NOAA and NASA reports show 2013 tied for fourth warmest on record with 58.12 degrees global average, while 1988 fell to 21st. Hottest year remains 2010. nine of ten warmest years have occurred in the 21st century. The year also featured a major East Coast snowstorm and 41 billion-dollar disasters led by Asia and the Pacific.

Japanese dolphin hunt nets 40 slaughtered for meat

Sea Shepherd says about 250 dolphins were corralled into a cove during the season in Japan with roughly 40 killed for meat after selection of 52 to live for aquariums and buyers. The group marked the largest roundup Sea Shepherd has monitored since the hunts began.
