Firetruck delayed by abandoned car on Cadet Drive

A North Ridgeville fire truck was blocked by an abandoned car five houses from its destination on Cadet Drive Friday afternoon. The street was unplowed when firefighters arrived. The fire, origin undetermined, caused about $8,000 damage to the home at 33 E Cadet Dr. Another truck arrived from the opposite end, and the crew was delayed briefly.

Snow breaks January record across county reach

Six inches of snow fell on Friday setting a new single day record for January. Monthly total surpassed the prior highest by four inches. All county roads are open though western Erie and Huron counties still have some closures. Businesses reopened after an earlier Friday shutdown. Forecast calls for light snow today with minimal additional accumulation and highs of 20 to 25. Cold tonight with snow ending and partly cloudy skies. Lows zero to 10 above. Sunday should be mostly sunny with highs in the mid 20s and winds easing to about 10 mph.

City probes snow crews over possible duty shirking
