Medical Mutual honors Columbia resident for community service
Columbia resident Dorothy Richards received a Bronze Award from Medical Mutual of Ohio at the 1999 Outstanding Senior Volunteer Awards luncheon for 22 years of service. Nominated by Strongsville United Methodist Church, she started the church's 75 member Friday Fellowship and leads senior outreach and the card ministry. Amherst mayor asks police to probe hack claim
The Chronicle Telegram reports Amherst mayor John Higgins asked police to investigate a claim that someone hacked into the Utilities Department computer system. Utilities director Don Woodings said a modem was connected to the system and a consultant from Software Solutions Inc will assess the setup.

Lorain man Henry Maldonado, 19, faces aggravated murder and related counts in the Nov 23, 1999 death of his former girlfriend Virginia Velez. Her burning body was found behind the townhouse Maldonado shared with his mother. Trial moved from Jan 24 after defense delay request.
