Ohio lawmakers start joint House and Senate hearings on releasing 974490 federal funds for sex education involving HIV AIDS prevention training. The program begun in 1998 trained 55 educators and health professionals, with one third of the grant used for training and the rest earmarked for abstinence, tobacco prevention, and other disease prevention efforts.
A judge ordered Elyria to provide information to Nylonge Corp. about settlements with other firms related to damage to the West Side Interceptor Sewer. A jury awarded $1,367,663 against Nylonge with 65 percent responsibility, while the city faces total repair estimates from $5 million to $6 million.
An Ohio appellate court reversed a lower court ruling, allowing Lorain County Head Start and its parent agency Lorain County Community Action Agency to remain defendants in a lawsuit filed by three children alleging molestation by a Head Start bus driver and a Lorain man. The ruling states the nonprofit agency is not a state-created political subdivision and lacks immunity. The case is sent back to the trial court for further proceedings.
Preliminary autopsy shows 29 year old Franklin County deputy sheriff Jeffrey Allen Wehr, who worked in the jail kitchen, died of natural causes after being found unconscious in a staff restroom. He was pronounced dead at Grant Medical Center. Final results pending. no foul play suspected.
