Patrols heighten search for Elyria rape suspect near school

Elyria police doubled patrols in the area around Elyria West High School to find a gunman who raped a 16 year old girl as she walked to school on Wednesday. Police chief Rodger Griffith said patrols have increased but not tripled and emphasized high visibility and unmarked and marked cars in the area as investigators pursue the suspect. The victim was approached by a black man with a gun about 7 am on Adams Street and taken to a vacant Brace Avenue house for the assault. Authorities have a suspect description and say efforts will continue until the crime is solved.
